Here is another in my line of dessert based smoothies. As we
are all being healthy and detoxing our bodies after the mountain of food we
(i.e. me) have eaten over the Christmas holidays, this Key Lime Pie smoothie is
perfect.
It contains limes, unsurprisingly, which have loads of
benefits such as being good for constipation, weight loss and skin care.
Banana is in their too and they are also good for digestion
and weight loss. Plus, packed with protein, they can keep you going for a long
time. Making you feel fuller for longer.
The greenness of the smoothie comes from spinach. Spinach is
packed full of iron as Popeye can attest to.
The vanilla extract included may also help cholesterol
levels would you believe! So all in all this smoothie is perfect to kick start
your day and get rid of all those toxins.
The combination of lime and vanilla always conjures up the
taste of Key Lime Pie in my mind, hence I’ve called it Key Lime Pie Smoothie. I
also added some crushed digestive biscuit (or graham cracker depending where
you are in the world) for decorative effect, but that is entirely optional! And
I whipped up some more almond milk until it was frothy to spoon on top, to look
a bit like cream – again totally optional!
Of course, I blitzed all of the ingredients in my FroothieOptimum 9400 blender which made easy work of it!
Yield: 2 glasses
Ingredients:
The juice of two limes
The zest of one lime (plus some to garnish)
1 medium banana
2 big handfuls of spinach leaves
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
250 ml almond milk
Method:
Love these photos, I'm feeling saintly and healthy just looking at them!

ReplyDeleteThanks Jac :)
DeleteThis looks like my kind of smoothie. I love green smoothies. I've added the juice from oranges and lemons to my smoothies but not limes, I'll have to try that. Thanks for the inspo!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Nikki!
DeleteI love Key Lime Pie..... if I close my eyes, will this taste just like munching cake? If so, sign me up! I need to start drinking juices/smoothies to get some extra nutrients. Definitely one to try :D
ReplyDeletemaybe Michelle - but then again maybe not. But it does taste good!
DeleteThese are definitely my kind of flavours. This looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh no.. A digestive biscuit is not comparable to graham crackers! I'd choose a digestive biscuit or anything similar over a graham cracker any day! And now I'm hankering for key lime pie, hah!
ReplyDeleteI like the taste of Green supplements, if you have ever tried a shot wheat grass juice, you know exactly what I’m talking about! On the other hand, there are few people like me, who like the taste of green drinks.
ReplyDeleteMost detox regimes recommend flooding the body with purified or filtered water, rather than the bottled kind.
